We will study the character of the Holy Spirit but before we start we need to know that when the Holy Spirit lives in us, He can impart His personality and character in us. The Holy Spirit works in us so that we grow from glory to glory into the image of the Son of God, Jesus Christ. The Bible says that when we are joined to the Lord that we are one with Him.
1Cor. 6:17 But he who is joined to the Lord is one spirit with Him.
The Lord Jesus Christ gave us a great example about the Vine and the branches. We receive everything we need from the Vine because without Him we can’t do anything. We should love God above all and we should be one with Him in Spirit but also in our soul. Our soul is our mind, will, and emotions.
1Cor. 2:16 For "who has known the mind of the Lord that he may instruct Him?" But we have the mind of Christ.
We will see that the Holy Spirit has the same character as God. That will prove that the Holy Spirit is God. Child of God, you can participate in the divine nature. You can download Jesus Christ in your mind, will, and emotions through the Holy Spirit.
THE HOLY SPIRIT HAS THE SAME CHARACTER AS GOD.
A. HOLINESS
The first part of the character of the Holy Spirit is Holiness. Holiness means to be separated for God, to be set apart for God. We can be holy through the help of the Holy Spirit because He is Holy.
1 Cor. 6:19-20 Or do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and you are not your own? 20 For you were bought at a price; therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God's.
B. TRUTH
The second part of the character of the Holy Spirit is Truth. The Holy Spirit is also called the Spirit of truth, and that is why He can lead us into all truth. We can let the Holy Spirit impart His truth into our lives. The truth will set you free!
John 14:16-17 And I will pray the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may abide with you forever--17 the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees Him nor knows Him; but you know Him, for He dwells with you and will be in you.
John 16:13 However, when He, the Spirit of truth, has come, He will guide you into all truth; for He will not speak on His own authority, but whatever He hears He will speak; and He will tell you things to come.
C. LOVE
The first part of the fruit of the Holy Spirit is love. The Holy Spirit is God, God is love, so the Holy Spirit is love. Through the Holy Spirit we are able to love God above all and our neighbor as ourselves.
Rom. 5:5 Now hope does not disappoint, because the love of God has been poured out in our hearts by the Holy Spirit who was given to us.
Rom. 15:30 Now I beg you, brethren, through the Lord Jesus Christ, and through the love of the Spirit, that you strive together with me in prayers to God for me,
Gal. 5:22-23 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness, self-control. Against such there is no law.
D. LIFE
The Holy Spirit is called the "The Spirit of Life," God imparted His life in Adam through the breath of life, the Holy Spirit. With and in Christ we can be life-giving spirits, we can bring life to this world, and life is the light of men. 1Cor. 15:45
Rom. 8:2 For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has made me free from the law of sin and death.
Rom. 8:5-6 For those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit, the things of the Spirit. 6 For to be carnally minded is death, but to be spiritually minded is life and peace.
Rom. 8:11 But if the Spirit of Him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, He who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through His Spirit who dwells in you.
E. ETERNAL
The Holy Spirit is called the "The eternal Spirit." The Holy Spirit is the Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end. That is why the Holy Spirit who lives in us can tell us the things that will come.
Hebr. 9:14 how much more shall the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered Himself without spot to God, cleanse your conscience from dead works to serve the living God?
F. OMNIPRESENT
The Holy Spirit is Omnipresent which means that He is anywhere anytime. We see examples in the Bible that believers could see other people in the Spirit. Or they knew by the Holy Spirit what was happening in a far away country.
Ps. 139:7-10 Where can I go from Your Spirit? Or where can I flee from Your presence? 8 If I ascend into heaven, You are there; If I make my bed in hell, behold, You are there. 9 If I take the wings of the morning, And dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea, 10 Even there Your hand shall lead me, And Your right hand shall hold me.
G. OMNISCIENT
The Holy Spirit is Omniscient which means that He knows all things. Nothing is hidden from Him and we believers can have the gift of knowledge through the Holy Spirit. That means that the Holy Spirit lets you know certain things you never knew about before.
1 Cor. 2:9-11 But as it is written: "Eye has not seen, nor ear heard, Nor have entered into the heart of man The things which God has prepared for those who love Him." 10 But God has revealed them to us through His Spirit. For the Spirit searches all things, yes, the deep things of God. 11 For what man knows the things of a man except the spirit of the man which is in him? Even so no one knows the things of God except the Spirit of God.
1John 2:20 But you have an anointing from the Holy One, and you know all things.
1John 2:27 But the anointing which you have received from Him abides in you, and you do not need that anyone teach you; but as the same anointing teaches you concerning all things, and is true, and is not a lie, and just as it has taught you, you will abide in Him.
H. SOVEREIGN
The Holy Spirit is the third Person of the trinity God. The Holy Spirit is God and He is sovereign. We should submit ourselves or yield ourselves to the Holy Spirit. When the Holy Spirit works through us there will be an amazing authority and power on display.
Job 26:13 By His Spirit He adorned the heavens; His hand pierced the fleeing serpent.
Job 33:4 The Spirit of God has made me, And the breath of the Almighty gives me life.
Luke 1:35 And the angel answered and said to her, "The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Highest will overshadow you; therefore, also, that Holy One who is to be born will be called the Son of God.
