Isa. 54:17 No weapon formed against you shall prosper, And every tongue which rises against you in judgment You shall condemn. This is the heritage of the servants of the Lord, And their righteousness is from Me," Says the Lord.
We hear this Bible verse when people are praying boldly; engaging in spiritual warfare, ready to take on the devil. But still, there are so many Christians who fall and walk in weakness and are just waiting till the Lord Jesus Christ comes back on the clouds. Is that because God’s Word is not applicable for today or are we missing out on something? We need to strengthen each other in the Lord, and we have to discover how we can swing the Sword of the Holy Spirit, the Word of God effectively. (Eph. 6:17) We will study Isaiah chapter 54:13-17 and we will discover a powerful truth.
Isa. 54:13 All your children shall be taught by the Lord, And great shall be the peace of your children.
We have to know that when we believe and accept the Lord Jesus Christ we became children of God. (John 1:12-13) The Lord Himself wants to be your teacher and your peace will be great. Open yourself to receive teaching from the Lord who created heaven and earth. The Lord does not want us to be ignorant about the things of God.
This is also an amazing promise for your children. You can ask the Lord to teach your children and grandchildren and guide them in the way they should go.
Isa. 54:14 In righteousness you shall be established; You shall be far from oppression, for you shall not fear; And from terror, for it shall not come near you.
The Lord’s teaching has the purpose of establishing you in righteousness. The Lord has to teach us His righteousness and let His Holy Spirit convince us of righteousness. (John 16:8-10) When we try to figure out what righteousness means in our own understanding we will discover something very smelly.
Isa. 64:6 But we are all like an unclean thing, and all our righteousnesses are like filthy rags; we all fade as a leaf, and our iniquities, like the wind, have taken us away.
Our own righteousness is actually not righteous, our own righteousness is self-righteousness and that is a deception out of hell. Self-righteousness is a lie that we need to be delivered from. Righteousness means, “in a broad sense: state of him who is as he ought to be, righteousness, the condition acceptable to God. “ (Strongs 1343) Because of the fall of man, the sin of our ancestors, we became unrighteous and are not the person we ought to be.
Rom. 3:10-12 As it is written: "There is none righteous, no, not one; 11 There is none who understands; There is none who seeks after God. 12 They have all turned aside; They have together become unprofitable; There is none who does good, no, not one."
We need to be taught by the Lord and we should be established in His righteousness. Then oppression will be far from us. Then we will be free from terror. Then oppression will not come near to us. We see in our study that the key to victory is His righteousness.
Isaiah 54:15-16 15 Indeed they shall surely assemble, but not because of Me. Whoever assembles against you shall fall for your sake. 16 "Behold, I have created the blacksmith Who blows the coals in the fire, Who brings forth an instrument for his work; And I have created the spoiler to destroy.
The power of darkness can only attack when God allows it. God is the creator and nothing can overcome God. God is in control. When we are taught by the Lord and established in His righteousness, the darkness is not able to overcome us and darkness will fall for our sake. When we walk in self-righteousness (that means sin) the darkness has a legal right to attack us. God can use the power of darkness to bring you back to Him, to run back to Him.
Isaiah 54: 17 17 No weapon formed against you shall prosper, And every tongue which rises against you in judgment You shall condemn. This is the heritage of the servants of the Lord, And their righteousness is from Me," Says the Lord.
Now when we are taught by the Lord and start to understand His righteousness we can use this promise in verse 17 in the right way. Only quoting this scripture has no power, we need to be established in God’s righteousness and then we can use this scripture as a sword.
We see that the weapon formed against you is a tongue that wants to accuse you and bring judgment on you. The tongue to accuse you is the devil, who is called the accuser of the believers in the book of Revelation. (Rev. 12:10-11) We can thank God because we received a gift, we received a heritage. The heritage we receive is the righteousness from the Lord. God’s righteousness is a gift!
Rom. 5:17 For if by the one man's offense death reigned through the one, much more those who receive abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness will reign in life through the One, Jesus Christ.)
We should not start spiritual warfare with sin in our lives. Sin in your life will give the devil a legal right to attack you. You need to stay in a close relationship with Christ and confess your sins when you make mistakes. That will keep you in His Righteousness.
1John 1:9 If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
When we confess our sins, God forgives all our sins and cleanses us from all unrighteousness. With God’s righteousness, nobody can stop you. We will condemn the accusations with the blood of Jesus Christ and with our testimony that our sins are forgiven. All our sins are forgiven! Now we can use God’s Word as a Sword against the enemy, and we will destroy the works of the devil!
2Cor. 5:21 For He made Him who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.
Heavenly Father, thank you that Your Word teaches us about righteousness and that You want to establish us in Your righteousness. When we stand in Your righteousness nobody will be able to accuse us. No weapon formed against us will prosper. Thank You, that You give us the weapons, Your Words, to destroy the works of the devil. Help us with Your Holy Spirit to overcome and destroy the works of the devil. We pray in Jesus' name, Amen!
