The identity crisis is growing rampant in this world among all layers of society but especially among the youth. This alarming phenomenon is bringing a lot of division in nations, cultures, and families. People are confused and don’t know who they are, where they come from, and where they go. For example, the LGBTQ+ community is struggling with their identity, but they even bring it to a higher level, they even struggle with their gender, genes, and DNA. They are not the only ones who are struggling with their identity, even religious people struggle with their identity and feel that they are unworthy or have feelings that they are not good enough. Next to that, many young people suffer from having low self-esteem and don’t know their value and try to be somebody they are not.
True Identity
Why is it that people are trying to find themselves, or try to find their identity? Why are people trying to discover themselves? Did people lose something and are they trying to uncover what is deep inside of them? Most people are struggling with their identity and are looking for answers. The ancient scriptures give us the answer to why people are struggling with their identity and the truth about their identity. We need some clarity about this topic of identity, and we will dive into the ancient scriptures.
Genesis 1:26-28
26 Then God said, "Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness; let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over the cattle, over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth."
27 So God created man in His own image; in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them.
28 Then God blessed them, and God said to them, "Be fruitful and multiply; fill the earth and subdue it; have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over every living thing that moves on the earth."
The Creator of Heaven and Earth talks about our true identity. His original plan for our identity is that we have the image and likeness of God. We were created to be fruitful and to multiply with the authority to subdue darkness and to have dominion over evil.
We were not created to be slaves and to be addicted to an unhealthy lifestyle. We were created to be free and to be in control of our lives. This almost sounds too good to be true because that is not what we have experienced during the long history of humanity. Something went wrong with humanity when people fell into sin, we call this the fall of man, When our ancestors Adam and Eve fell into sin, they started to lose their divine identity and have been confused ever since.
Restoring Lost Identity
Genesis 1:2-3
2 The earth was without form, and void; and darkness was on the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God was hovering over the face of the waters.
3 Then God said, "Let there be light"; and there was light.
The Spirit of God had to give a rebirth to people to bring people back to their divine identity. People lost their divine identity; we can call it the first identity theft in history. People became like the earth at the beginning when the earth was without form, void; and dark. People became chaotic, dark, and empty, and started to take on a strange identity. God had to give people light again what He did by imparting His Spirit and His Word. God’s Spirit had to hover over the chaotic, dark, and empty people to help them become born again, coming back to their divine identity.
New Identity
1 Sam. 10:6
Then the Spirit of the Lord will come upon you, and you will prophesy with them and be turned into another man.
Here we see an example in the ancient scriptures of how the Spirit of the Lord changed a person with low self-esteem into another man. There is also a Kainos identity ready for you. There is a new identity waiting for you so that you really can be yourself. This is actually what you are looking for your whole life.
Image of Glory
2 Cor. 3:17-18
17 Now the Lord is the Spirit; and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty.
18 But we all, with unveiled face, beholding as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory, just as by the Spirit of the Lord.
Here we see how the Spirit of the Lord brings people to freedom, to liberty. Now the Lord is the Spirit, and He can transform you from glory to glory back to factory settings. He will transform you back into the image of God as it was in the beginning. Do you want to walk in freedom, do you want to be transformed into God’s image, and walk in the glory that God has prepared for you?
Renewing the Mind
Eph. 4:22-24
23 that you put off, concerning your former conduct, the old man which grows corrupt according to the deceitful lusts, and be renewed in the spirit of your mind,
24 and that you put on the new man which was created according to God, in true righteousness and holiness.
When you want to come into your true identity you need to lay down your old identity. As you see, your old identity is corrupt because of deceitful lusts. An old identity that tries to be a good person fools itself because it is not able to be perfect. We need to be renewed in our minds and put down the old and put on the new. The new man is called the Kainos man, who is coming back to his original state.
You can delete the old man with all its viruses and lusts and download the new man who is in true righteousness. The word righteousness means; the person you ought to be!
This is called the good news to get a new life, new hope, and new start!
How to delete the old man and download the new man, the KAINOS man?
Pray out loud:
Heavenly Father, I come to you because I struggle with my image and identity. Thank you for the ancient scriptures which explain to me that I need to experience a rebirth. I want to delete my old life with all its sinful records. Forgive me and make me clean. I want to download the new man and return to my original image and identity so that I can be the person you want me to be. Thank you that all this is possible through Jesus Christ who deleted my old man on the cross and rose from the dead to create the possibility to be a new creation. I believe in you! Amen!
