HEALING AND DELIVERANCE

Updated: Feb 24, 2024

The eternal God always has been THE HEALER. He healed in the past, is healing in the present, and will heal in the future. God will always be the same yesterday, today, and forever. When we read the ancient scriptures, we find that it is God’s will that people will be healed. God sent His Son Jesus Christ to this world to heal and deliver people who were oppressed by the devil.

Acts 10:38
how God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power, who went about doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil, for God was with Him.

Jesus Christ came to do the will of the Father, that is why we know that deliverance and healing are God’s will, even today.

There is much confusion about healing today, some think that God doesn’t heal anymore, and some even think that healing is from the devil. This confusion can only exist when people are not putting their eyes on the Word of God and God’s Son, Jesus Christ. We will discover the ancient scriptures' amazing promises of healing and deliverance. These promises are found in both the Old Testament and the New Testament. When we read the ancient scriptures, we see that the religious Jews were against the supernatural and healing. If things were not going according to their religious framework and mindset they would be ready to cancel people. The same problem is still present in our days when we see religious people resisting the Holy Spirit working in healing and deliverance.

Acts 7:51
"You stiffnecked and uncircumcised in heart and ears! You always resist the Holy Spirit; as your fathers did, so do you.

We should study God’s Word with an open heart and mind and put our theological and religious views aside. Jesus Christ didn’t come to bring religion or theology; He came to bring the Kingdom of God. Let’s be open to what God says through the ancient scriptures which are inspired by the Holy Spirit.

Healing by God through the prayer of Abraham, the Father of Faith. This is the first healing recorded in the Bible.

Gen. 20:17
So Abraham prayed to God; and God healed Abimelech, his wife, and his female servants. Then they bore children;

According to the ancient scriptures, we are the children of Abraham. We received the promise of Abraham so that we can live a life of faith like our Father Abraham.

Gal. 3:14
that the blessing of Abraham might come upon the Gentiles in Christ Jesus, that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith.

God made a covenant of healing before Moses and the 10 commandments. After God DELIVERED His people, He gave them the promise of healing.

Exodus 15:26
"If you diligently heed the voice of the Lord your God and do what is right in His sight, give ear to His commandments and keep all His statutes, I will put none of the diseases on you which I have brought on the Egyptians. For I am the Lord who heals you.

The words, “the Lord who heals you,” are in Hebrew written as “Jehovah Rapha.” This is one of the redemptive names of God in the Bible. God never changes and He didn’t change His name, He still heals today.

King David knew the covenant of healing. He received and experienced God's forgiveness which led to physical health.

Ps. 103:1-3
Bless the Lord, O my soul; And all that is within me, bless His holy name! 2 Bless the Lord, O my soul, And forget not all His benefits:  3 Who forgives all your iniquities, Who heals all your diseases,

God will forgive all your sins, and He will heal all your sicknesses and diseases.

Forget not ALL His benefits. In Psalm 103:1-5 we find 7 benefits we can receive from the Lord when we turn back to Him.

1. Forgiveness of all sins.

2. Healing of all diseases.

3. Redeem your life from destruction.

4. Be crowned with lovingkindness.

5. Be crowned with tender mercies.

6. Satisfies your mouth with good things.

7. Youth renewed.

Isaiah knew the healing power of God and saw the works of the Messiah in the future. The Messiah, the Lord Jesus Christ, is still working for those who believe.

Isa. 35:5-6
Then the eyes of the blind shall be opened, And the ears of the deaf shall be unstopped. 6 Then the lame shall leap like a deer, And the tongue of the dumb sing. For waters shall burst forth in the wilderness, And streams in the desert.

Healing is in the atonement of Christ.

Matt. 8:16-17
When evening had come, they brought to Him many who were demon-possessed. And He cast out the spirits with a word, and healed all who were sick, 17 that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by Isaiah the prophet, saying: "He Himself took our infirmities And bore our sicknesses."

Isa. 53:3-5
Surely He has borne our griefs And carried our sorrows; Yet we esteemed Him stricken, Smitten by God, and afflicted. 5 But He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities; The chastisement for our peace was upon Him, And by His stripes we are healed.

1Pet. 2:24
who Himself bore our sins in His own body on the tree, that we, having died to sins, might live for righteousness--by whose stripes you were healed.

Jesus Christ was prophesied to be a Healer.

Luke 4:18
"The Spirit of the Lord is upon Me Because He has anointed Me To preach the gospel to the poor; He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted, To proclaim liberty to the captives And recovery of sight to the blind, To set at liberty those who are oppressed;

The Lord Jesus Christ was healing the soul but also the physical body. He opened the spiritual eyes but also the physical eyes. He heals the spirit, soul, and body.

Jesus Christ's ministry was a ministry of deliverance and healing.

Matt. 4:23-24
And Jesus went about all Galilee, teaching in their synagogues, preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing all kinds of sickness and all kinds of disease among the people. 24 Then His fame went throughout all Syria; and they brought to Him all sick people who were afflicted with various diseases and torments, and those who were demon-possessed, epileptics, and paralytics; and He healed them.

Matt. 9:35
Then Jesus went about all the cities and villages, teaching in their synagogues, preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing every sickness and every disease among the people.

Jesus Christ gave authority and power to His twelve disciples to cast out demons and heal the sick.

Matt. 10:1
And when He had called His twelve disciples to Him, He gave them power over unclean spirits, to cast them out, and to heal all kinds of sickness and all kinds of disease.

Jesus Christ gave His authority and power to 70 disciples to cast out demons and heal the sick.

Luke 10: 1
After these things the Lord appointed seventy others also, and sent them two by two before His face into every city and place where He Himself was about to go.

Luke 10:9
And heal the sick there, and say to them, 'The kingdom of God has come near to you.'

Luke 10:17
Then the seventy returned with joy, saying, "Lord, even the demons are subject to us in Your name."

Jesus Christ gave this power to ALL who believe. He gave this power also to you!

Mark 16:17-18
And these signs will follow those who believe: In My name, they will cast out demons; they will speak with new tongues; 18 they will take up serpents; and if they drink anything deadly, it will by no means hurt them; they will lay hands on the sick, and they will recover."

Healing is a gift of the Holy Spirit.

1Cor. 12:7-10
But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to each one for the profit of all: 8 for to one is given the word of wisdom through the Spirit, to another the word of knowledge through the same Spirit, 9 to another faith by the same Spirit, to another gifts of healings by the same Spirit, 10 to another the working of miracles, to another prophecy, to another discerning of spirits, to another different kinds of tongues, to another the interpretation of tongues.

The Church was commanded to minister healing to the sick.

James 5:14-16
Is anyone among you sick? Let him call for the elders of the church, and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord. 15 And the prayer of faith will save the sick, and the Lord will raise him up. And if he has committed sins, he will be forgiven. 16 Confess your trespasses to one another, and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The effective, fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much.

Conclusion: These were some of the examples that Healing was, is, and will be. Jehova Rapha doesn’t change and still heals today. When we study these promises we must be hungry to experience God’s healing for ourselves or for others.
